2 Sentence Review: Youth in Revolt
So, I finally got around to seeing Youth in Revolt, and I know you’re supposed to view a movie based on a book as an entirely separate medium, keeping in mind that the goal of the film is to capture the spirit of the book, rather than merely translate each and every minute facet into visual form. But that’s a long, epic book, and this movie’s barely 90 minutes long, and I was confused why they didn’t give the perfectly casted characters more time to really chew on their roles; especially Michael Cera as his secondary persona, Francois Dillinger, who is at last a departure from the squeaky-voiced nervous guy Cera’s been playing since Arrested Development.
