Mark E. Smith, founder, leader, and only constant member of The Fall turns 52 today. Let’s all wish a happy birthday to this incredible man who may or may not be more belligerent than Shakespeare.

Smith has been making music with The Fall for 30 years (sidenote: damn, that makes me feel old). Why not celebrate this milestone with some video?

“Garden”

“Totally Wired”

“Hit The North”

Video clips and some words from Mark, from a 1979 episode of So It Goes hosted by Tony Wilson.

Mark E. Smith reads football scores. (A modern day classic. “Tottenham Hotspur Postponed” indeed).

If you want more from Mark E. Smith and The Fall (and who doesn’t, really) check out Mark being interviewed by Ian Svenonius on VBS.tv’s Soft Focus. You can also read about his problems with British authorities regarding the deaths of some red squirrels. Last but not least, check out the highly informative The Fall Online which should keep you satiated until the next Fall release.

    i can’t believe he is 52.

plus, the fact that they enrage me so much is a good thing. if i didn’t care about them, i wouldn’t let them incite me.
