Dog Dies During Routine Traffic Stop

I saw this story on Good Morning America yesterday morning, and I found it a bit controversial.

Dog dies during routine traffic stop.

Now here are my thoughts. You need to know that I am a huge animal lover. I think it is horrible that this dog died, but under the circumstances, I do not feel like the cop was that much at fault. He sees a vehicle traveling at 100 mph, weaving in and out of big rigs, what is the officer going to expect? The driver could very well be high on anything, or trying to flee a murder scene, and have any type of weapon you can imagine. Many a cop are killed during routine traffic stop for various reasons, and he was just taking precautions to protect himself and to stop this person from clearly breaking the law. 100 mph IS excessive, and yes, maybe the cop should not have said, “It is only a dog, you can get another one.” But still, I think there is a reason that his superiors did not find him guilty of misconduct.

Animal ambulances, anyone?

Agreed. Probably should have just taken down the license plate number, said, “I’m going to send you a ticket in the mail. Go on your way, don’t speed, or I will arrest you.”

Something along those lines. At least that’s what I would have done if I were a police officer. After I punched him in face of course.
