Last week, I went to work at a new location.
(I was hired as a traveling position so sometimes I travel to different parts of the state for coverage).
I had never been to this building before, and as I was leaving at the end of the day, it was suggested to me that I take the stairs. I was on the third floor, and thought that would be a good idea, since I had taken the elevator up that day, why not get some extra exercise? great. I am walking down the steps, get down to the bottom floor, go to the door that I thought would lead me outside, and it is locked. All the doors locked behind me. And of course I have no key since this is not my normal place of business.
Panic. Shit. I am stuck in the stairwell of a building where 95% of the workforce had already left. I had no phone numbers of the building since I had left my directory at home. I am thinking I am going to spend the night in the stairwell, unless I could get the attention of, I don’t know, the cleaning staff?
I book it up three flights of stairs, and start knocking on the door that I had originally left from, the last place I had seen people. Knock….knock…nothing. Wait. Knock…KNOCK…knock…knock…(add some hellos)…knock…knock. This ensued for maybe 7 minutes at the most, until I heard people approaching. “Wait..wait we are coming!” They open the door. I explain to them what happened, and they pointed out to me that there was a door across from the original door I tried to get out of on the ground level, that led to the outside. It was just hidden between a metal detector. Either way, was escorted down the elevator, shown the correct door, and went on my merry way.
Talk about embarassment. Even worse: my “boss” is a judge. Although I am not usually intimidated by them because I work closely with them, it was still embarassing to have someone with so much “power” point something so simple out to me. I was so glad to be rescued, but even happier to get the hell out of there.
We have seen each other since, and, luckily, nobody speaks of this incident.
Think about it:
step 1: you will receive link in e-mail.
for demonstration, i sent an e-mail to melissa at commonvisionllc dot com
step 2: you will be asked to sign to Blogger.
step 3: Assuming you do not have a google account, click on create an account.
step 4: i signed up using the e-mail address that my invite was sent to – melissa at commonvisionllc dot com. i picked a password and a display name. as you can see, i picked the display name – “anonymous poster” i accepted the terms of service & pressed continue.
step 5: back to the beginning but now for those users who did not have a google account and/or did not want to use that google account…now you can sign in with the e-mail address that you entered on the previous page – (note: melissa at commonvisionllc dot com is *also* where i sent my invite!) – with the password that i just created.
step 5a: this is also where i enter my display name – “anonymous poster”
step 6: the dashboard. this is like blogger’s homepage. you see your sign-in name at the top right of the screen and the blogs this user name contributes to/is affiliated with/owns/manages in the middle column. (note: my sign-in name is only affiliated with The Common Vision Insider so only that shows up).
step 7: we have a hidden display name (anonymous poster (see: 5a)) but now we’re going to edit our profile to hide our e-mail address from everyone (people who contribute to the blog, people who manage the blog, *everyone*). click edit profile on the right-hand side.
step 8: Edit user profile. Under privacy, I unclick share my profile. Under identity, my username remains melissa at commonvisionllc dot com and this e-mail address is what i’ll use to sign in.
step 8a: Under e-mail address, however, i delete melissa at commonvisionllc dot com and enter my e-mail as trial at commonvisionllc dot com. this way, the administrators of the blog can only see this e-mail address – NOT the original e-mail address to which they sent my invite. I keep my display name the same (see: step 5a).
step 8b: i save this.
step 9: this is how i show up to administrators and other posters to the website. my display name is “anonymous poster” and my e-mail address is NOT the e-mail address that received the invite to contribute but the new e-mail address that i entered in step 8b (trial at commonvisionllc dot com).
step 10: this is not really a step but a comparison.
notice: step 9 – the display name and e-mail are completely different than the original e-mail address and/or previous google account.
in comparison: here is how Common Vision shows up.
